William-Adolphe Bouguereau
Bill White ("Summa Minutiae") says "William-Adolphe Bouguereau's Madonna of the Roses is the loveliest Madonna and Child I've ever seen." I agree. I recall seeing the captivating The Virgin with Angels (or "Song of the Angels") before (pictured on right), but had forgotten the name of the artist. His portraits -- like Portrait of Gabrielle Cot -- are so lifelike it's amazing. If you have some time, do browse the works of William-Adolphe Bouguereau at ArtRenewal.org.
